ABSTRACT
This
study was intended to evaluate the effect of stress on employees productivity in service industry.
This study was guided by the following objectives; to identify the causes of stress and human reaction
to it, to analyse the difference between functional and dystunctional stress
among the employees, to determine how stress on the job influences the
behaviour of employees, to identify factors that contribute to most employees
stress and how the factors affect their family life as well as place of work,
etc.
The
study employed the survey
research and descriptive research; questionnaires in
addition to library research were applied in order to collect data. Primary and
secondary data sources were used and data was analyzed using Non parametric statistical method and Chi-square
method at
5% level of significance which was presented in frequency tables and
percentage. The respondents under the study were 40 staff of Shukura Hotel, Zamfara.
The study findings revealed that there that an employee in this study exhibits features of type A personality
although it is noted that unlike type B personalities he does not feel rushed.
The respondents showed unmistakable sign of time pressure and anxiety related
to their work. The work environment of the employees in this study is by and
large not as stressful as may be expected. Except in a few areas involving lack
of involvement in decision making, differences of opinion with supervisors and
management interruption of work schedules.
The result of this research report will be
significant to the management and employees of Shukura Hotel, Sokoto and
similar organization as a working material relevant to decisions on stress
management and control.
