ABSTRACT
The paper critically analyses problem of pregnancy and abortion on
girl-child education in Nigeria.
Impact of pregnancy and abortion on
girl-child education are being identified as a major problem that causes
backwardness in a girl-child education. The study is aimed at finding out what
brought about pregnancy and abortion and also know whether harsh economic
situation contributes to the pregnancy and abortion in Numan Local Government.
The major objectives of the paper are; to find out and look into the problem of
pregnancy and abortion on girl-child education performance that prevails in our
secondary schools, to make his contribution and recommendation to our secondary
schools in Numan Local Government, to determine the level of performance of our
female students in our secondary schools in Numan Local Government) with a view
and determination to prove to individual, the society and the nation concerned
that, they are facing a serious problem that need every body’s efforts to bring
about apparent difference and lasting solution.
Concerning methodology, both secondary and
primary sources of data was used for the study. A descriptive survey research
design coupled with a multi-stage sampling technique was used with a sample
size of 100 from the five
(5) secondary schools in Numan Local Government Yola in Adamawa State. Data was analyzed and represented in frequency
tables and percentages.
Key findings from
the study showed that broken
homes cause the impact of pregnancy and abortion on girl child education. That peer group influence on female
students result to impact of pregnancy and abortion on girl child education.
That moral laxity from parent causes the impact of pregnancy and abortion on
girl child education. That act of forcing sexual intercourse cause the impact
of pregnancy and abortion on girl child education. That lacks of parental
responsibility toward female children cause the impact of pregnancy and
abortion on girl child education. Two much of freedom given to female children
causes the impact of pregnancy and abortion on girl child education. That
pornographic material like nude films leads to the impact of pregnancy and
abortion on girl child education. That financial factor does not contribute to
the impact of pregnancy and abortion on girl child education. That effects of
pregnancy and abortion on girl child education cause population prostitution.
Traditional custom teaching of sex education can prevent the impact of
pregnancy and abortion on girl child education. Opportunity for improved
economic, social status would go a long way to prevent the impact of pregnancy
and abortion on girl child education.
This will make more efforts geared towards throwing more light on pregnancy
and abortion which has become a national problem.
