TIME SERIES ANALYSIS ON RAINFALL PATTERN IN CALABAR MUNICIPALITY FROM 2002-2014 A CASE STUDY OF NIGERIAN METEOLOGICAL CENTRE CALABAR

This research project material is available: TIME SERIES ANALYSIS ON RAINFALL PATTERN IN CALABAR MUNICIPALITY FROM 2002-2014 A CASE STUDY OF NIGERIAN METEOLOGICAL CENTRE CALABAR.

Rainfall is the most important natural factor that goes a long way in determining a lot of things especially agricultural production in Nigeria, especially in the southern part of Nigeria. The changes and variability associated with rainfall and the pattern of extreme high or low precipitation are very important for agriculture as well as the economic development of the state. It is a well-known fact that the pattern of rainfall is changing on both the global and the regional scales due to global warming (Hulme et al, 1998, Kayano, 2008). As the moves to encourage the agricultural sector in other toavoid food scarcity continues to gain ground and acceptability, information on rainfall variability is of essence for the design of water supply and supplemental agricultural irrigation schemes and the evaluation of alternative cropping and of soil water management plans. Much as long rainfall records are mostly available in many countries, little use is made of this information because of the unpredicted nature of the records.(Mina and Sayedul, 2012).

As the need for industrialization and self employment starts arising in Nigeria as a result of the federal government inability to provide employment for the teeming population the need for private individuals to establish self owned small and medium scale industries also arose. In this vein, people started raising their subsistence organizations to the status of small and medium scale industries so as to private the products therefore to the market.

REACHING THE “IBORED”

This research project material is available: REACHING THE “IBORED”.

As teachers, we are always looking for creative ways to engage our students. We start the school year determined to bring to the classroom creative projects that generate student interest and foster critical thinking skills. Think back to your school days. What is the one learning experience you remember the most? What was it about this experience that makes you remember it today? Was it the teacher, the topic, the way the material was presented? As you look back on that memorable experience, you are likely to find that it appealed to your emotions. You learned because you connected to it. You remember because you were engaged. Reaching today’s Gen M (millenial) student is challenging and changing the way we teach. Children now spend, on average, 14 hours per week watching TV and 2.75 hours per week using home computers (Swanbrow, 2004). A Harrison group study reports teens spend more than 72 hours per week using electronic media. They spend their free time listening to iPods, networking, downloading, uploading, and instant messaging (IM), and one-third of teens report owning an Apple iPod (Olson, 2006). Teens report their number one choice of “must-have” tech gadgets is a computer, followed by the cellular phone and the iPod/MP3 player (Pechacek, 2007). Added to this mix of ubiquitous high-tech gadgetry is the tendency for Gen M students to “display an increased proficiency in multi tasking” as well as “attention problems and an inability to delay gratification,” (Tucker, 20

THE HUMAN VOICE AS A NEGLECTED PSYCHO-SOCIAL RESEARCH TOPIC AND RESOURCE 1

This research project material is available: THE HUMAN VOICE AS A NEGLECTED PSYCHO-SOCIAL RESEARCH TOPIC AND RESOURCE 1.

There is an excellent fit between the speaking voice and the psycho-social approach, in that the voice connects inner and outer worlds while simultaneously challenging such a division. It remains, however, relatively neglected, both as a psycho-social research resource and as a topic for the psycho-social researcher. This article argues that, while researchers are developing increasingly sophisticated ways of harnessing visual research methods, the oral dimension remains marginalised, with voice almost invariably collapsed into speech. Despite the methodological challenges created by using the voice as a psycho-social research tool, attention to the paralinguistic has the potential to enrich research and deepen our psycho-social understanding of human behaviour. The speaking voice is the nodal point of human communication: notwithstanding the growth of social media and virtual bonds, it remains the prime instrument through which we establish relations with others, acting as connective tissue among both strangers and intimates. Given this centrality, the neglect of the speaking voice as a psycho-social research topic and resource is curious, especially in the context of the enormous interest in conversation and speech over the past few decades. Yet where voice is referred to at all it is often its metaphorical meanings that are signalled: the voice as signifier for political presence and power, a synonym for enfranchisement. Literary studies have also appropriated it, along wi
